With the flying of the World War II famous P-51 Mustangs, the Korean War's star performer F-86 Sabre Jet, and the mighty F-14 Tomcat, the F-15 Eagle, and the F-16 Fighting Falcon, people attending the Stuart airshow were treated to a rare showing of military power spread over more than 5 decades of military flying.

An e-mail, dated 28 January 2002, from an F-14 Tomcat fighter pilot who is flying combat missions over Afghanistan was obtained by the Naval Aviation Foundation from the Association of Naval Aviation.
Each carrier has an air wing comprising 70-80 aircraft, including F/A-18 Hornet and F-14 Tomcat fighters, as well as surveillance, electronic warfare, search-and-rescue and command and control aircraft.
During air warfare training exercises, the Navy and Air Force can simulate the MiG-29 by either the F/A-18 Hornet, F-14 Tomcat or F-15 Eagle.
