The information which the IFES field staff provided to me before and after the municipal and general elections in 2000 was extremely useful in terms of assessing how the elections were run and what issues we might need to flag as we prepare to transfer this process over to local authorities.

We are engaged in this legal action not only to vindicate the rights of the thousands of black voters who were denied their constitutional franchise in the 2000 elections but also to keep the promise of election reform alive for people all over our nation who had trouble voting and felt that their votes did not count on election day.
The 2000 elections will be about protecting legislative and Congressional incumbents, picking up a few open seats, and challenging a couple of vulnerable Republican legislators, and nothing else.
