A problem arises when the 256 colors that are being stored in the gif file are not the same 256 colors the computer is able to display.
Its drawback is that it is limited to 256 colors and does not compress all that well.
If there are more than 256 colors used in the image than we should use the GIFquantize() routine to reduce the colormap.
