AC VOLTAGE: The sum of the DC and Peak AC voltage applied to the capacitor should not exceed the rated DC voltage, nor should the RMS voltage exceed the Corona Start Voltage.

The disadvantage is that the diode will rectify some of the oscillator AC voltage and what you will most likely be measuring is the total DC voltage, not just the applied DC voltage.
These systems generally require only solar panels, an approved DC to AC inverter and normally a second power meter to measure the power generated independently from that used.
These units accept high voltage or high current AC inputs and provide a proportional DC signal output.
