Individuals who have show a propensity to develop cardiac rhythm disorders in response to binge drinking should be advised to moderate alcohol intake whilst chronic heavy users of alcohol who have manifested cardiac rhythm disorders should abstain from alcohol particularly if these rhythm disorders are of a potentially lethal type.
This and other studies have also demonstrated that the pattern of alcohol intake is also important so that the risk of disease is increased by drinking outside meal times compared to drinking entirely with meals, and drinking every day compared to weekend "binge" drinking.
Now evidence is accumulating to support the common sense view that consuming large amounts on a few occasions (binge drinking) is more risky than consuming the same total quantity of alcohol in regular small amounts.

Entering a partnership with MADD California means joining a family of those dedicated to stopping drunk driving by continuing to educate society about the dangers of driving after drinking, supporting the victims of this violent crime through our victim service programs and activities, and preventing underage drinking by calling attention to the deadly combination of youth and alcohol comsumption.
The working group is exploring new ways in which the criminal justice system can work with other government agencies and communities to address issues such as binge drinking on campuses, alcohol use by batterers, and alcohol abuse treatment within the correctional system.
Issues explored in depth included underage drinking, the interaction between alcohol abuse and illegal drug abuse, alcohol and family violence, alcohol and crime in Native American communities, and driving under the influence.
