Banking laws are much the same but are even more critical as the same laws which provide legitimate confidentiality to private citizens can be and are used by organised crime and petty dictators to launder monies gained illegally.

In the United States, the banking industry has devoted significant resources to avoiding and lobbying against laws that prevent it from expanding geographically and from engaging in other financial activities, such as securities underwriting and insurance sales.

Nothing contained in this subdivision shall be construed to permit any foreign banking corporation to maintain an office in this state otherwise than as provided by the laws of this state or to limit the powers conferred upon any foreign banking corporation as set forth in the laws of this state or to permit any foreign lending institution to maintain an office in this state except as otherwise permitted under the laws of this state.

It is my personal opinion based upon what I see from privacy rights advocates and recent changes to banking laws, that you will see other states follow suit with similar laws in the very near future and that a federal law will probably also come to fruition.
