Many things now considered key elements of 20th century design were introduced to Australia through the import programme of Marion Best: the first Noguchi lampshades, Saarinen Pedestal chairs, marimekko fabrics, Jim Thompson Thai silks and Barcelona chairs were all imported by Best.
Modern materials were effectively employed by Miës van der Rohe in his famous Barcelona cake decorating chair made of unadorned steel and leather, and contributions were also made by Saarinen and Bertoia.
