Heating loads, such as electric baseboard, electric water heaters and electric cooking ranges along with conventional refrigerators and air conditioning units place extremely high demands on renewable energy systems and are not cost effective.
A high percentage of the older housing stock has electric baseboard heaters and electric water heaters, although natural gas is used for heating and water heating in newer units, a trend that is supported by Seattle City Light even though the utility does not sell natural gas.
Electric baseboard heaters should be inspected to ensure an adequate clearance from combustibles.
