Usually the beats are subdued and mixed through effects, to give the drums a more spacey sound while the sonic textures are usually long keyboard chords held for several measures at a time.
Adding trendy drum machine beats and droney new age synthesizer sounds detracts from the otherwise tasteful musicianship of the album.
The drums are also pretty deathmetal sounding with alot of variety in the beats not at all a blast fest, not the fastest shit to be heard but they match the music well as its somewhat of a doomy sounding album, the tones are all nice, theres no tincan snares or any of that sort of shit the cymbals sound clear too.
