Bottles of yeast-carbonated root beer may explode if allowed to ferment too long.
Bottled beer is typically pasteurized by passing filled bottles through a heat tunnel where the bottles are heated and held at high temperatures for a predetermined time before being cooled back down and then labeled.
It is particularly pervasive in light beers packaged in green or clear bottles and is less common in beers packaged in brown bottles.
