CDs are really cheap in Germany so I did a bit of shopping, before all of the shops shut up at four o'clock: I got a Garbage album for about eight quid - not bad.
Unfortunately, CDs are now widely perceived as being intrinsically cheap because there are so many giveaways on the front of magazines and so on; sometimes even two on one magazine.

Because it is easy and cheap to digitize masses of slides by sending them to some lab to burn onto Kodak Photo CDs, thousands of photographers (and museums) have handled their 35mm slides in this manner.

Alongside there are independent locally produced CDs, recorded in bedrooms or cheap community recording studios using simple technology where not a lot of technical wizardry or musical knowledge is required and mastered and distributed locally.
Pirates are (semi-)illegal LPs and CDs, often compilations or cheap clones of offical releases produced countries where copyright laws do not exist or are not enforced.

Many CDs, DVDs and video games can be found at amazingly cheap prices, but be aware that some movies are actually shot with a standard video camera directly in a movie theater!
Maybe cheap is ok if you don' t mind your CDs skipping, hissing tapes, or maybe your artwork not coming out clear and without mistakes.
Even the new CDs are cheap, but there are so many used CDs in good condition that you may never make it to the new side of the store.
