Mp3 is a coding wave file and is able to reproduce sound quality close to that of audio CDs but is much lighter than an audio CD.
They are used to play CDs, MP3s and stereo sound from the PC TV tuner.
CDs are a great medium for liberating MP3s where portability is required, but when you're dealing with home stereo equipment something like the HiFi-Link makes far more sense.
