At that time it was evident that the development of the area between Cedar Rapids and Marion would ultimately require such a highway, and before 1960, the Marion City Engineer and others attempted to get the Iowa Highway Commission (now the Iowa Department of Transportation) to designate a route for the bypass so that appropriate land use controls to protect the route from development could be imposed, but did not have much luck.

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders open their final weekend of action before the United States Hockey League’s holiday break with a game against the league-leading Sioux City Musketeers Friday night at 7:05 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, who currently sit in first place in the United States Hockey League’s East Division, will host the defending Clark Cup champion Sioux City Musketeers Friday evening and the West Division-leading Lincoln Stars Saturday night.
The Riders will host the Sioux City Musketeers Friday night at 7:05 and take on the Sioux Falls Stampede at the same time Saturday evening at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
