Another unusual find is the 1966 Chevelle SS 396 convertible, fully restored with a new interior, top and tires, as well as its exciting red exterior paint treatment.
The Malibu SS was discontinued in the US in 1966 and replaced that model year by the Chevelle SS.
The Chevelle SS 396 was now it's own series instead of an option package, and the new bold style gave it the familiar curved edges and fastback that stayed with the car until it's demise.

Of course the other carmakers reached the same conclusion and the result was a profusion of factory-backed, street legal GTOs, Mustangs, and Chevelles that on any night could be found cruising the streets of the Detroit suburbs, looking for action.
