Christmas Toy Chest When young patients are admitted to Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, and especially when they are heading for surgery, the nursing staff gives each child a gift from the Year-Round Christmas Toy Chest to help make their time in hospital a little less frightening.
Handmade ornaments with a child's age and gift wish are hung on a Christmas tree displayed in a local shopping mall.
It is the child within them that begins to stir and squirm, that they, in their adult manner attempt to suppress, but which causes the sides of their mouth to curl into a bright and shining smile when they imagine the glee and joy that their children will receive when they open those gifts on Christmas Day.

When Christmas was completely a religious celebration, children were told that the "Christ Child" brought them their gifts.
It has also been brought to our attention that each child who comes to church will be presented with an early Christmas Gift.
