The Criminal Justice System (CJS) should be responsible for feeding information on the nature and prevalence of crime problems in Papua New Guinea to the Law and Order Council Team through the National Law, Order and Justice Council.
This project aims at designing a model court to ensure the smooth flow of dockets and information between the CJS departments.

Mr Justice Bryson of the NSW Supreme Court has pointed out one of the problems with Sir Harry's comment: Gibbs CJ's observation that it is not unduly pedantic to begin with the assumption that words mean what they say will guide us to the solution of most problems, but could tend to obscure the besetting difficulty that each of us is very tempted to see his own first interpretation as much more strongly and clearly what the words say than any other view.

The CJS Sourcebook shows that of those arrested, about 80 percent are prosecuted, three-quarters of those prosecuted are convicted, and about 70 percent of all felony convictions result in a prison or jail sentence.
NSPIS is an important tool in speeding up the effectiveness of the Criminal Justice System (CJS), and linked systems will support front-line policing, reducing the administrative burden and freeing up officers to meet the challenges of policing today more effectively.
The CJS needs to be more sensitive to the trauma experienced by the victims and witnesses of crimes which is aggravated by then having to give evidence in court.

Whilst we broadly support the Government's proposals for CJS reform, many of which we have advocated for a number of years, the search for the truth would be better served if some of the reforms were more radical or far-reaching.
