LEAF was started in the Spring (January) of 2000, when four students and good friends at University of South Florida and neighboring community Colleges got together to do their part in bringing hope and opportunity to poor and underprivileged brothers and sisters in Liberia, and at the same time create a support base for Liberian college students in the area.
Thanks to a long-standing articulation agreement between Florida's community colleges and universities, TCC graduates are guaranteed admission to state universities.

Florida Community College at Jacksonville (FCCJ) has developed a prototype database student tracking system which includes information on student performance, learning styles, and participation in other federal and state programs.
South Florida Community College's four acre center in Lake Placid includes offices, classes for academic transfer, laboratories, vocational and adult community education programs and a gymnasium.
The new legislation directs Florida community colleges to notify students of other possibilities besides their own campus programs, including those offered by private-sector for profit companies.
