I also write freeware and shareware emulators of various old computer systems and game consoles, maintain a variety of web pages, and spend some time on IRC where you can find me under nick RST38h at the #russian channel.
Latter machines and all the LSI based ones had 'console' emulators that used the console serial port to replace the switch functions with ASCII commands.
There are a huge number of different emulators for different platforms, and more being added all the time, but the primary focus recently, and my primary interest, is in using a PC to emulate game consoles.
