I was wondering I took some babie coon out of a nest if that would help train them I hear it ain't right cause the person said the dogs would smell human on them is this true.

It was said that Sam Smith named it this because' there were so many prairie dogs or ground squirrels in the Hollow that he called them coons and he called the place Coon Hollow.
We had covered so many miles coon hunting together training over a hundred dogs in the ten or so years that we had hunted together.
Doug I have been coon hunting with dogs for twenty years and have noticed that each year it becomes harder to find a buyer for the 50 to 100 pelts that I manage to harvest each year.

I was told just to wait till she is about 8 months old and then just run her with some well trained dogs to get her on the right track, while other have told me to let trapped coon out in front of her and let her trail them after they have run out of site, and then when she gets older and a little more wiser I can start running her with older coon dogs.
Tracy Hi my names Tracy and I am just getting into coonhunting here in North Carolina and I was wanting to catch a few live coons in traps to train my dog with I have a 17 month old female walker with good bloodlines that I have had since she was 11 months old.
Our neutered Maine Coons are always around so that the kittens are used to older cats and our two German Shepherd Dogs also come and take an interest in watching over the kittens.

Keep any young dogs on a leash until you are certain that he is running coon.
