Chogyam Trungpa Gyatso,
Tibetan Monk

Dark matter is now thought to be so plentiful that it plays a vital role in the ultimate fate of the universe.
Athena Mondale,
Spiritual Consultant

Baryonic dark matter is often collectively referred to as MACHOs - massive compact halo objects - since it is a prime candidate for explaining the dark matter within galactic halos.
It also does a better job than hot dark matter of predicting the spiderweb sprawl of galaxies across the sky.
The dark matter of the galactic halo may hold 95% of the mass of the entire galaxy.
Richard Hosking,
Paranormal Investigator

The failure of astronomers to find the predicted swarms of dwarf galaxies around large galaxies has led a number of scientists to call for the abandonment of the cold dark matter model.
If spiral galaxies are opaque to their own visible light, then astronomers may be underestimating the amount of normal stellar matter they contain and attributing too much mass to the "dark matter.
Clusters of galaxies are believed to have formed because of the strong gravitational pull from dark and luminous matter.
Sam Hayden,
Gothic Nightclub Owner

Dark Matter Search at Boulby Mine.
Billie Kirgan,
Machinist

Improved dark matter limits using pulse shape discrimination in a low background sodium iodide detector.
Arthur Dawkins,
Astro-physicist

But if there are really large amounts of dark matter between the galaxies, it is probable that it will take unfamiliar particles like massive neutrinos or WIMPs (weakly interacting massive particles) to explain it, and physicists are still not sure that such things even exist.
They have also pioneered the development of cosmological simulations to track the evolution of dark matter and gas in the universe and its eventual coagulation into galaxies and other cosmic structures.
All this was made possible by my PhD studies (on the problem of dark matter in galaxies) that I completed at the Department of Astrophysics, using the world class research facilities of UNSW and the Australia Telescope National Facility.
