Release dates are "soft" in the sense that RISA Technologies would rather release software that has been thoroughly tested and debugged instead of releasing software to meet an arbitrary deadline.
Major KDE releases should be once a year with dates synchronized such that all applications that form KDE are released with these major upgrades.
