Hip dysplasia is reported by OFA to be at about 3% for the breed though again it is probably considerably higher because of the number of dogs whose hip x-rays are never sent in and because of the number of puppies produced by backyard breeders and puppy mills that don't carefully screen prospective sires and dams.
It is important to obtain evidence that neither parent suffers from any hereditary ailment such as hip dysplasia or retinal problems and, if the pup is more than 12 weeks old, a vaccination certificate should be obtained from the breeder.

Hip dysplasia occasionally occurs - mild dysplasia will not show any adverse clinical effects and the dog will lead a normal life; but again, should not be part of any breeding program.

There is some epilepsy in the breed and this would be a question for you to ask when looking for a new puppy and there is some hip dysplasia but this is rare and most breeders now hip score their dogs and would be able to reassure you on this point.
A dog that has hip dysplasia is said to be dysplastic and has hip joints that are not formed perfectly.
