New training mandated by state laws, coupled with new state and federal grants to prosecutors, will mean court and law enforcement personnel will be better able to enforce domestic violence laws to the benefit of victims, families and communities.
These grants are intended to encourage communities to adopt innovative, coordinated practices that foster collaboration among law enforcement officers, prosecutors, judges, and victim advocates to improve the response to domestic violence.
Congress passed the Crime Control and Safe Streets Act, giving law enforcement grants to states and local governments to increase the number of officers and improve crime prevention.
