Musically, the films were quite similar to live action movies of the time – composers were still stuck in the style of music that accompanied silent films, and many composers who wrote for silent films were now writing for talkies.
It is hard to know where to draw the line between musical films, films that feature music strongly because the story demands it, and films that use music a lot in the soundtrack.
