The movie nicely blends livelier humor and a darker tinge than "Sorcerer's Stone," and the performances of Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and pals Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger (Rupert Grint and Emma Watson) are much more self-assured and authentic.

Daniel Radcliffe is rather flat as Harry Potter and Emma Watson, as the precocious Hermione Granger, is excessively theatrical and both are shaded by Rupert Grint who is excellent in the role of their cynical friend, Ron Weazley.
Harry's classmates and sidekicks, the mischievous and comic Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and the know-it-all teacher's pet, Hermione Granger (Emma Watson), give excellent performances, often upstaging Radcliffe.
He finds himself not only amongst good friends Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) but in the midst of a new mystery, one which threatens not only Harry but Hogwarts' student body as well.
