Blessed is He Who hath sent down upon His Servant such tribulations as have melted the hearts of them that dwell within the Tabernacle of eternity and the souls of those who have drawn nigh unto their Lord.
The rationale is that no matter where a Jew finds himself or herself their hearts and souls should take flight as their eyes gaze in the direction of Jerusalem.

Souls and bodies are defiled and polluted by sin, the heart is estranged from God, yet many are struggling in their own finite strength to win salvation by good works.
In the hearts of all men is the light of God, we have experiences from the outside world to bring light upon our souls so we will grow in spirit so that Jesus can shine through!
There was no searching of our hearts and souls as a nation to see if we our offending Holy God and His commandments.
