Make sure that you have aligned the threads of the two Ring Nut threaded halves with the threads on the Heater Reddy fitting before you secure them in place with the Ring Nuts one-piece retainer ring.
You will find the two cutting grooves located to the left and right of the center of the fitting, just inside the large male threaded portion of the Heater Reddy fitting.

While a Heater Reddy fitting allows the Redhead heater to be installed without any gluing of the fittings, installation of a Redhead heater is a simple matter in any case.
