Santa Barbara is not only the downtown shopping, or the beaches everyone knows, it is also gold and purple hills, open grassy ranches, scenic coastlines with cliffs sculpted by wind and surf, regal eucalyptuses, sycamore trees and twisted oaks.
I walk through coffee plantations, look across the hills and valleys, and watch bananas grow out of huge purple flowers shaped like tear drops.

No vast deserts or bare mountains interrupt the vistas of rounded hills, leafy trees and tastefully purple moorlands.
The green, purple, orange, yellow and brown colours of the scree slopes betrayed the volcanic origins of the hills, and the bright yellow and golds of the few trees added to the varied palette of the scene.
