The 66 is for flat recivers, such as lever action rifles, like the Winchester 94, Marlin 336 or modern shotguns.
Designed in co-operation with Marlin Firearms, the new cartridge would be used in a special version of the Marlin Model 1895 lever action rifle.
With its singularity of handling a proven big game cartridge combined with the excellent craftsmanship of Marlin rifles, the 1881 should have been an instant hit with hunters and shooters.
