I have a 1998 25HP Elec. Mercury. The engine will not idle, will only run at high speed. Compression on top cylinder is 105. Mechanic says cylinder can not be bore. He said the engine is strap and to not buy Mercury or this will occur again. Are the 25HP Mercury's this bad. I also have a 1985 25HP elec that is still running. I need information. |

I am looking at a 1999 125hp Mercury/Force outboard that is for sale.I will be using it on a 21'center console boat (Trophy). I have been told by some mechanics that the Mercury/Force motors are of poor quality, and to stay away from. What is your opinion on this and should I just go and find something else? I would appreciate any advice you can give me.
Thanks |

I have a 25hp mercury motor l999 model after10 hours the stator coil went out, a new coil was installed, after which it seems to run very smooth but after running a few minutes it seems to lack power. all of the regular things have been checked, it still seems to lack power. Is it possible the company might have put the wrong coil in? I have not been able to check the RPMs but sounds low. |

I have a 1990, 120 Force inboard/outboard that I have rebult the carbs, replaced all the reeds, set the timing and had it running/starting every time. My friend said lets close all the covers and see what it sounds like. We did this and couldn't get it started again. The manual I have is 'FORCE / Outboards' Service Manual for models 90 and 120 H.P.. The problem I have here is that the wiring diagram is only for the 90hp and the wireing colors don't match for the 120hp. Any suggestion or where can i get a wiring diagram for the 120hp? |

I have a 1969 mercury 650. I noticed in all the service manuals that i have read that it is supposed to have two fuel pumps. However, mine has only one. Whats the deal on that? Answer to jud tomlin. The 650 came with one or two pumps. The 850 had two. You will notice it has provisions for two pumps if you want to drill it out. If all is working well one pump will work fine.P.S. This is a very fine motor. |

90 HP Mariner, 1, 3, 5 cylanders will not fire, no spark. 2,4,6 are OK. Replaced the swithchbox module with a new one but 1,3,5 still did not fire. The reason I changed the switchbox was when this first happened I swapped the two original modules and 1,3,5, fired and 2,4,6 did not. Problem solved not, Then with the new module and the original that was good I swapped them and the engine would not start at all. So I went back and placed the wireing in their orginal place and 2,4,6 fired and 1,3,5,did not. any suggestions.

For ten years this out board would run on only 4 cylinders of the six until I got out of the harbor and opened it up. Then as if one turn on and electrical switch all cylinders kicked in and the engine ran fine the rest of the day. It now has stopped that and will not run on all cylinders. Using timing light and a water hose connection on my trailer, I found that the number one cylinder fires well up to about 2000 rpm. At that point it becomes intermittent and at higher rpms does not fire at all. I changed both power packs, new plugs coils but the same problem occurs. I also changed the wires. Any Ideas?? Help is greatly appreciated.
