New York’s version of Megan’s Law establishes registration and notification provisions and requires the classification of convicted sex offenders using a three-tier system.
Sex offences reforms – The bill will crackdown on paedophiles using the Internet and strengthen the Sex Offenders' Register by tightening notification requirements and broadening offences that trigger registration.
We propose that the Order should carry with it a requirement for the person to be subject to the registration provisions of the Sex Offenders Act 1997, if he is not already subject to those provisions.

As a result of these checks, three (3) offenders were found to be in violation of the sex offender registration requirements, and warrants were issued for their arrest for violating this provision of the law.
Each state and the District of Columbia have also enacted laws providing for community notification of the release of sex offenders or allow public access to sex offender registration.
General Stenehjem has also been closely working with the legislature and Department of Corrections to protect the public from sex offenders by improving the current sex offender registration law.
