Parallel interfaces allow I/O data transfer of eight bits at a time to parallel ports on the microcontroller.

The parallel port version is for use with IBM compatible PCs, the SCSI version is for use with SCSI-enabled computers and the USB version is for use with PCs and the latest Apple computer models such as the G3, G4 and iMac.
The new enhanced parallel ports, EPP and ECP ports, have bidirectional data lines so that data can be read from a hard disk or a scanner connected to the PC.
The USB to parallel converter allows multiple products to be used on the same PC without adding extra cards, it also solves the problem of adding more parallel ports to laptops.
