PIT AND THE PENDULUM (1961) initially unspools as a virtual remake of director Roger Corman's previous Edgar Allan Poe adaptation, THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER (1960)
The best moments are inside gags based on the originals in The Pit and the Pendulum, The Tomb of Ligeia and The Fall of the House of Usher.
Other tracks like 'Indifference' are dark and cold, almost transporting you to a jail cell, or some torturous pit from 'The Pit and the Pendulum' by Edgar Allen Poe.

On a whole, this is a good anthology, consistent in tone with it's predecessors, the above-mentioned Usher and 1961's The Pit and the Pendulum , albeit on a smaller scale and subsequently not quite as effective as those films.
