Storms and drifting sand dunes have erased remnants of the camp, except for the chimney, which was toppled by Hurricane Frederic in 1979.
Sand and grit from the Gobi Desert to the north bring occasional dust storms.

Inlets are also affected by seasonal storms and can change configuration rapidly and severely as tremendous amounts of water and sand flow through them.

The recent storms have created new sand bars and the rip currents swirl all around them.
Cone were the North African sand storms that always seemed to arrive at chow time.
Sand will again be placed so that it will stick out and erode quickly from next winter storms, suppling a very small amount of sand to the hungry beach.

Winter storms help push the shells along the shallow plateau of sand along the Gulf of Mexico and deposit them along the beaches for you to find.
Erosion associated with storms is often severe because large quantities of sand can be moved quickly offshore from the beach and dunes.
They are unstable and can be breached by storms so that their sand is blown inland.
